Abstract: | Twelve years of war in Western Sahara have brought enormous difficulties and suffering to the Sahrawis of Western Sahara and to the Moroccans. Sahrawis are currently (1987) living in three main areas: in refugee camps in the desert region around Tindouf, Algeria, in the Western Sahara, the territory claimed by Morocco as part of Morocco, and in the southern area of Morocco proper. The author documents their suffering and that of a large part of the Moroccan population. She concludes that it is time that the UN/OAU plan to end the conflict be fully implemented for continued war can only mean continued suffering for large numbers of people. Notes, ref. |
