Abstract: | As a result of misunderstandings between the governments of Spain and Equatorial Guinea, and because Equatorial Guinea is surrounded by French-speaking countries, Equatorial Guinea has since 1980 turned towards France and francophony. A number of cultural institutes have been created in order to promote the French language in Equatorial Guinea. For the moment, however, the success of this new francophile policy depends on limited means and in spite of political intentions, French is not yet integrated in the administration, nor as a means of communication or an instrument for cultural development.
