The impressive educational achievement of these Muslim societies, from the second decade of the 20th century onward, had its antecedents: the Muslim community was once averse, if not scornfully indifferent, to the cause of Western education among them. Examined is the nature of Muslim inicated is the transformation of this initial attitude from one of opposition to acceptance, and also is attempted to show the significance of the former opposition and the subsequent acceptance.
