Abstract: | The new Nigerian government promises good governance, transparency and economic development, but Nigeria cannot attain the democratic height and social stability without a vibrant and resilient economy. With pervasive cooruption in the public service, initiating and sustaining growth-promoting reforms will remain illusive. Nigeria has slipped far down the list of developing nations despite its vast oil reserves, and within the past five years has topped the list of the global most corrupt countries. This essay examines elements and consequences of corruption in Nigeria, and proffers corruption combating measures. Bibliogr., notes, ref., sum. |
