Abstract:The author offers some reflections on what is described as 'indigenous knowledge', the way ordinary people relate to the natural world. After some introductory remarks on what is meant by the term 'indigenous knowledge', the author focuses on Malawi, describing four forms of local knowledge relating to medicinal plants, edible fungi, mammals and insects in this country.
