Abstract:This collection brings together essays that explore the nature and scope of African and African diaspora religions and their relevance in a globalized world. African indigenous religions, as well as other religious traditions such as Christianity, Islam and Asian-derived religions, are examined, together with how they shape the life and culture of Africans in and outside the continent. Slavery also has an impact on African religions as African indigenous religious beliefs and cultures crossed to other countries, in particular to the Americas. These African-derived religions survive in various forms. Moreover, African forms of Christianity and Islam have entered North America and become a significant part of the continent's religious space. The nature of transplantation, migration, religions and religious identities in the United States of America across time are also addressed. Notes, ref. [ASC Leiden abstract]
