Abstract: | This paper discusses how fetishism influenced religious change and practices in the former Gold Coast, contemporary Ghana. The author analyzes the case of the prophet Wadé Harris, who travelled through the Gold Coast in 1914. In addition it investigates the spread of anti-witchcraft movements in the country, in the period 1900-1930. Both of these movements were a stimulus for religious and social change, but they aroused very different reactions. Bibliogr., notes, ref. [ASC Leiden abstract] |
