Abstract: | The traditional (also referred to as indigenous) games of Africa in general were marginalized and thus not well documented. This book documents the traditional games in Kenya; citing as model best practices from contemporary developments in traditional games of China and South Africa. The book presents the research findings on the traditional games of the people of the coastal region of Kenya in which 23 traditional games are described in in two categories, namely, games of low skill organisation and games of high skill organisation. The games covered are analyzed in terms of their participation, rules, equipment, facilities and social significance. Additionally, as an anthropological study, and also in order to appreciate the social-cultural background of the documented games, the work also presents a detailed background of the communities of the coastal region of Kenya covered in this research. Due to the subtle relationship between traditional games and traditional dances in the indigenous African communities, the book further higlights some traditional dances of the coastal region of Kenya, It also gives a projection of possible future developments on traditional games of the coastal region of Kenya.
