Abstract:	This is a report about black South African women workers. In compiling the report in 1983, interviewers from the Institute for Black Research visited 992 homes in the Durban metropolitan area where they carried out in-depth interviews with working women. Group discussions also lent clarity to the problem being studied. This report reveals many of the problems black working women in South Africa experience and exposes many of the harsh living conditions they have to endure. It was found that almost 3000 adult women resided in the 992 homes and that 52 percent of these women were wage earners - a figure far higher than that found in official statistics.
