Abstract:Since 1977, FAO has given priority to the prevention of postharvest food losses, particularly through action to reduce losses at the farm and village level. The FAO Action Programme for the Prevention of Food Losses has undertaken a training programme during which several workshops were organized to train African technical officers to reduce postharvest losses. The workshops covered various aspects of crop storage and processing, including storage pests and their control, loss assessment, drying, storage, grain processing and socioeconomic implications. The material in this manual has been tested during training courses, and has also been reviewed on the basis of experience gained. It is now being published as part of the FAO Training Series.
