Abstract:Most of the roughly 850 entries are biographical sketches of historical figures. Other entries include lists of rulers, explanations of titles, and other such material which relates directly to individual personalities. This new edition moves the cut-off date to 1980 in order to include a large number of political leaders who achieved power after 1960. The new entries are grouped in a special supplement. Other changes have been restriced to updates of original entries and insertions of more recent bibliographical citations. Subject guide to entries.
