| Abstract: | In July 1982 Tanzania embarked on a three-year structural adjustment programme designed with the help of a World Bank advisory group. The ILO mission visited the country in 1984 and 1985. Its first task was: to review the distributional aspects of the programme as well as its implication for the satisfaction of key basic needs; the progress of the programme, especially in the light of the limited availability of foreign exchange; the likely consequences for the programme if additional foreign exchange becomes available. A postscript briefly describes developments from 1985 to 1987. Two appendices: Statistics - The consumer price index. |
