Abstract:From 1978 until 1985, the governments of the Republic of Liberia and of the Federal Republic of Germany jointly promoted a development project of agricultural training, the National Youth Training Center (NYTC). The present study, which is based on research carried out in 1983-1984, evaluates the situations (residence, activities, problems) of NYTC leavers, with particular respect to sex-specific trends and to the application of learned know-how. The study includes a tentative outline for an integrated approach to rural training and education, but also discusses the limitations of this approach in present-day Liberia.
