Abstract: | Shistosomiasis is generally a chronic, debilitating disease, without spectacular outbreaks or conspicuous mortality. Its diffusion was greatly facilitated changes begun or accelerated in the colonial period. The authors study its incidence and impact as well as the successes and failures of methods employed against it.
