| Abstract: | The series of annual volumes commonly known as the Cape Almanacs began in the year 1801. The earliest almanacs contained only lists of colonial officials and military personnel, apart from the usual astronomical data, local regulations and shipping movements. In 1809, however, there appeared a directory of merchants in Cape Town and from the following year a general directory of the town was included. The present volume covers the year 1818. |
