| Abstract: | In his delineation of the concepts and dynamics of African security within the global system, enmeshed in nuclear technology, the author gives prominence to political and economic independence as the threshold of African security and posits that a supranational pan-African federation and OAU defence force is the effective vehicle to achieve this. He rejects 'denuclearization' of Africa as an empty political neologism and recommends the quickening of the 'industrialization of production' and the acquisition of the nuclear option for transforming the economic and industrial map of Africa and for enhancing its security and bargaining power. Contents: 1. Introduction - 2. Fundamental categories of African security - 3. The foundations of African security - 4. International system in relation to African security - 5. Search for security through disarmament negotations: the weak confront the strong - 6. Security and development - 7. The nuclear option - 8. Conclusions: African security and disarmament. |
