| Abstract: | It is generally assumed that present-day Igbo writers have come to see and accept English not only as the official language of Nigeria, but also as the language of Igbo literature. This review of creative Igbo literature shows that there always existed creative literature in Igbo in all genres. It deals specifically with literature as social criticism as can be found in Igbo verse. In traditional poetry social criticism can be said to be synonymous with satire. The modern poets have maintained this feature in their works. Bibliogr., ref. |
