Abstract:Major unresolved questions centre on the processes that give education its influence. What forms of education have what types of effect under which conditions? How do schools affect development behaviour? In what ways are these effects modified by other educational experiences and processes? Guided by these questions, the author seeks to clarify conceptual and methodological requirements for an improved understanding of the relationship between what is learned in different types of educational contexts and subsequent behaviour in specified development domains, such as agriculture, health, task efficiency and economic productivity, in Africa.
