Abstract: | This paper first outlines the history of privatization in Nigeria up to the appointment, in July 1988, of the Technical Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation. It then looks at the detailed guidelines, objectives, and terms of reference of the current privatization programme, as well as at the number and nature of the enterprises involved. Finally, it discusses some implementational problems in order to conclude with a comment on the future prospects of privatization in Nigeria. It argues that, in the end, the gains will outweigh the losses involved in the privatization process. Bibliogr., sum. in English (p. 121), French (p. 125), and German (p. 117). |
