Abstract: | The issue of sanctions against South Africa is very controversial in Zimbabwe; the government has had to weigh the political desirability of imposing sanctions against the potentially disastrous economic consequences that sanctions might have for Zimbabwe. This paper first examines the call for sanctions against South Africa by the government of Zimbabwe within the context of the recent call by the international community to impose sanctions. Next, Zimbabwe's economic relationship with South Africa is placed in historical perspective. Finally, the political and economic implications for Zimbabwe of sanctions against South Africa are discussed. Note, ref. |
