| Abstract: | The period 1976-1987 represents an important strategic phase for the Republic of South Africa. This publication sets out to determine aspects of the Republic's national strategy, the establishment of the National Security Management System (NSMS) and the rationale for the establishment of the State Security Council (SSC), the Republic's strategic importance, its threat perception, and the security policies and strategic doctrines adopted to realize the defined aims of the Republic. It is based on excerpts from official government publications and public speeches delivered by government spokesmen. Every section is preceded by a brief theoretical introduction. |
