Abstract: | In Zimbabwe, there are extensive safeguards against unlawful encroachment on personal liberty, as well as various remedies available in the event of unlawful intrusion upon liberty. These safeguards and forms of redress embodied in Zimbabwean law must also be available to innocent persons adversely affected during government actions to counteract subversive activities and protect national security, such as when the law enforcement agencies abuse or act outside the scope of their powers. This article explores the practical difficulties faced by those wishing to seek redress of unlawful impingement on their right to liberty and examines the various remedies available. Notes, ref. |
