Abstract:	This report gives a comprehensive survey of certain demographic and economic features of the urban population of 7 towns, selected to be representative of all towns in the South-Eastern Cape Region (Towns/dorpe of more than 2000 inh.) In the first ch. the geographic and demographic characteristics are described. Then follows a detailed report on the methods and procedure of the survey. The 1st section of the report covers the age, sex, language, birthplace, mobility and religious affiliation of the population. The 2nd deals with the composition and size of families, income and housing, and the family life cycle. Then follows a report on the demographic characteristics of the economically active population, and on industry and occupation. A final ch. covers the population on active military service. Comparisons are made between the characteristics of the different racial groups. Summary of the main findings in English.
