| Abstract: | An attempt to address family history and agricultural history as interactive processes. The centeral topic is women's farming among the Beti of Southers Cameroon. Part I draws historical ethnography to show the context of family relations and farming patterns in the pre-colonial period, and on historical sources to show the various forces these have been subject to. Part II is based on field research and concentrates on the processes whereby new situations are negotiated.
