Abstract:The present volume contains 67 documents originally written in Arabic by officials of the Funj kingdom of Sinnar (northern Nile Valley Sudan) between 1702 and 1820. Documents 1 through 43 were created by agents of the central government in the capital, 44 through 61 by officials of the northern provincial government, and the remainder by scribes of lesser leaders. Within each geographically defined corpus the documents are arranged chronologically. Each document is accompanied by a brief introduction, an English translation, and notes; a glossary has been provided for terms left untranslated.
