Abstract:The education system in Cameroon has contributed to food self-sufficiency in the country by training experts and cadres in the areas of agriculture, livestock, forestry and agropastoral industries. But education could play an even more important and effective role in sustaining food self-sufficiency and enhancing food self-reliance by giving a more practical bent to the training programmes that already exist, by introducing agricultural training programmes in primary and secondary schools, by adopting and spreading extension programmes and by paying special attention to women in rural areas, who actually produce most of the food crops in the country.
