Abstract: | This study of two traditional small-scale irrigation projects in Rift Valley Province in Kenya contains three topics of research: 1) Questions directly related to the project such as the possibilities for the government to assist in the development of irrigated agriculture; the extent to whcih the local population can participate in the preparation and implementation of an irrigation scheme; the ability and the willingness of the local population to run a scheme independently. 2) A description of the socio-economic setting including various forms of communal activities and the role of women in agriculture. 3) The role that women can play in the development of small-scale irrigation. |
