Abstract:This paper analyses the impact of urbanization and changes in the structure of the economy on the demand for selected fuels in Kenya over the 1963-1985 period. The analysis shows that while urbanization has a positive impact on most fuels, changes in the relative importance of major sectors of the economy have differential effects on the demand for different fuels, in terms of both direction and magnitude of impact. The extent of urbanization and the general structure of the economy create unique energy requirements and energy considerations should, therefore, form an important part of development planning.
