Abstract: | This monograph on the Lotuho of southern Sudan is based on field research carried out between January 1981 and July 1983. After an outline of the background to the study and an introductory chapter on the study's point of departure, sources and organization, chapter three provides information on the geography of the area settled by Otuho-speaking groups, the demography and language of the Lotuho, and neighbouring ethnic groups. Chapter four deals with the economic activities undertaken by the Lotuho - agriculture, animal husbandry, gathering and fishing in the dry season, house construction and handiwork. Chapter five examines kinship, the household, marriage and bridewealth, and chapter six describes the territorial organization of the Lotuho at the village and age-class level. |
