Abstract:This paper analyses the relationship between housing types and socioeconomic areas in Ilorin, Nigeria. Most people of high socioeconomic class and high family status live in single housing units and sometimes in apartment complexes. The people of low socioeconomic status live in the indigenous areas. Their houses are in compound form, contain many rooms and house more than one family. Female participation in the labour force is identified as higher among the high class than the low class. The level of literacy corresponds with the people's status. There is a general spatial concentration of different classes of people in different areas. The wealthy class is concentrated in the elitist government reserved areas, while the periphery of the indigenous areas houses the medium class people. The low socioeconomic class occupies the indigenous houses. The majority of the population is in the low class areas. Therefore, more planning efforts should be directed towards them. Ref.
