| Abstract: | In the present context of world protection of statehood and the upsurge of national identities in Eastern Europe and Russia, it seems almost an anomaly that there should be talks of reincorporating the TBVC countries (Transkei, Bophuthatswana, Venda and Ciskei) into the Republic of South Africa. This paper first looks at the history of the TBVC countries, showing the precarious nature of the status of these countries. Then it analyses the factual and legal context of reincorporation and the way in which a reincorporation will have to proceed. Finally, it deals with the problem of determining the constitutional destiny and place of the TBVC countries within a future Republic of South Africa. |
