Abstract: | This paper examines the contribution made by Simeon Olaosebikan Adebo to the development of the Nigerian civil service in the period 1942-1962. In order to highlight both the shortcomings of the colonial civil service and Adebo's accomplishments, a description of the structure, management and operation of the colonial civil service in Nigeria is presented first. Adebo joined the Secretariat of the civil service in the wake of the Secretariat's reorganization between 1935 and 1946, and was transferred to the Western Nigerian civil service in 1955. Perhaps the area in which Adebo contributed most to the evolution of the Nigerian civil service, was the Nigerianization of the service. Ref., sum. |
