Abstract:The changing economic occupations of Mafa women in Mokolo, North Cameroon, after their conversion to Islam are presented here, not as an isolated phenomenon, but in relation to discussions concerning the role of the State in Africa and the actual economic situation of Cameroon as one of those countries affected by an IMF structural adjustment programme.
