Abstract:Dual paternity results when the genitor and sociological father are different individuals. Though knowledge of such a situation is usually kept secret it is taken into account when succession to positions of public status is regulated. The correct procreator is considered to be of major importance in such situations. When a woman has consented to clandestine relations, she will acknowledge her indiscretion during the confinement otherwise the pain will become unbearable. There is a decided preoccupation with the question of correct paternity in the lineage of the ruling house. The article refers to ethnic groups and tribes of the Transvaal, South Africa. Sum. also in Afrikaans.
