Abstract: | The major obstacle to the economic transformation of Africa in the last three decades (1960-1990) has been the application of wrong development theories or the wrong application of development theories by African States. This was the case with the import substitution strategy practised in the 1960s, regional integration theory, development planning, and the theory of human development through education, as well as the structural adjustment programmes (SAP) currently being implemented by almost all African countries. At the moment, there are at least three theories still being propounded for trial: the unification of Africa, as proposed by Reginald Green and Ann Seidman (1968), the delinking of Africa from the international capitalist system and, more realistically, the development of Africa through the mobilization of domestic resources.
