Abstract: | In preparing a book on the history of game legislation in Bechuanaland (Botswana) the author had recourse to the debates of the Native Advisory Council, formed in 1920, and the European Advisory Council, formed in 1921, which on several occasions dealt with game matters. These discussions, often amusing, deserve a wider readership and help to underline the concern with which game issues were treated. This paper shows how game matters were discussed in meetings of the Councils in 1929, 1931, 1932, 1938 and 1946. It is followed by a comment on two other discussions on game matters held in the Bechuanaland Protectorate. The first of these was in 1960 under the Joint Advisory Council, the amalgamation of the Native Advisory and the European Advisory Councils; and the second was the debate on the Fauna Proclamation of 1961 in the newly formed Legislative Council (p. 33-38).
