Abstract: | The Court of Appeal of the United Republic of Tanzania was inaugurated on 22 October 1979. The author examines the structure, practice and procedure of the Court of Appeal, describing the composition of the Court as well as the tenure of its judges. In terms of personnel, the Court of Appeal, the High Court of Tanzania and the High Court of Zanzibar are quite separate and distinct. The author also discusses provisions relating to appeals to the Court of Appeal and shows that, with the establishment of the Court of Appeal, the right of appeal against decisions of the High Court of Tanzania and courts subordinate thereto has been extended.
