Abstract:A four equation simultaneous equation smuggling model is used to investigate the effects of exchange control policies on black market exchange rate in Ghana from 1972 to 1987. The black market exchange rate is found to be inversely related to the official exchange rate and directly related to the enforcement of exchange control laws. The author also finds that exchange controls affect the black market rate indirectly through their effects on exports and imports. Bibliogr., notes, ref., sum.
