Abstract:Apart from ordinary pitfalls, tread-traps, forked wolf and fox boards and simple snares, almost all traps are constructed with systems consisting of several fixed and loose triggers combined with each other in different ways. Though not commonly realized, the system and the trap are different culture elements. One system may often be combined with different kinds of traps. The present study compares the systems which are used for African deadfalls (falling logs and hurdles) and other 'built' traps that are found in Africa. The African trigger systems are also compared with those from India, Indonesia and South America. Bibliogr., notes, ref.
