The workshop had as its main objective, the presentation, deliberation and clarification of all issues relevant to the provision and development of comprehensive rehabilitation programmes and services for visually handicapped persons, which in future could be organized on unified and regional basis with common conceptual guidelines. The long-term goal is to develop qualitative rehabilitation services which will bring about equalization of employment opportunities and income-earning capacities and better standard of living for the visually handicapped. Participants came from Eastern and Southern African countries, two liberation movements (PAC and SWAPO) as well as the Christoffel Blinden Mission, the International Labour Organization, and the Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind. |
