Abstract:Rae Graham, a British nurse married to a South African in 1948, lived in Vendaland, South Africa, where she came to know and appreciate the native herbalists and witchdoctors, and in Bechuanaland (Botswana), where she gained a close understanding of the Bushmen. In 1957 she moved to Johannesburg where she became a witchdoctor after a ten-year apprenticeship with a witchdoctor teacher.
