Abstract:Transformed item difficulty procedures were used to investigate the content and construct validity of the British Ability Scales similarities subtest for a sample of Zimbabwe school children (N = 436) with the pupils stratified by culture, social class, sex, school grade/age level and geographical location. Although a number of individual items seemed biased in favour of certain sociocultural groups and the British standardization sample, the subtest as a whole had content and construct validity for the study sample. Implications for psychoeducational testing practice in a multicultural context are discussed and suggestions for further research given. App., bibliogr., sum.
