| Abstract: | Translation plus Arabic original of an article by Ruhi (Bey) b. Muhammad Yasi b. Muhammad 'Ali al-Khalidi (1864-1913) on 'Kings and princes of the East' which appeared in the Egyptian magazine 'Al-Hilal' in December 1903. In it Khalidi describes the history of the Comoros and gives details in particular of the political situation on the four islands during the nineteenth century. Some of his remarks about the ruling house of Anjouan triggered a protest by Sayyid 'Ali bin Sultan Salim (also published here in translation together with the Arabic original), who charged mistreatment and enforced exile from his island by the French.
