Abstract: | The kind of French taught in Nigerian colleges and universities of technology should reflect the professional environment and relate to the living career situations of the students. After analysing various departmental and professional requirements on the basis of a questionnaire administered to the heads of the Department of Secretarial Studies and Business Administration, the Department of Catering and Hotel Management/Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Department of Information Sciences, at the College of Technology, Owerri, Imo State, the author determines how to present to each department a useful and functional French content to suit its needs. He indicates that there is room for at least two categories of French: general French for everyday common use, and technical, functional or professional French relating to the various specific objectives.
