Abstract: | This paper shows how cultural diversity is the cause of the breakdown of intercultural communication in Nigeria. Five main factors are identified as barriers to crosscultural communication: language, religion, political organization, nonverbal communication, and the use of stereotypes. These are illustrated with examples from the three major linguistic groups in Nigeria, the Yoruba (western Nigeria), the Ibo (eastern Nigeria), and the Hausa and Fulani (northern Nigeria). Bibliogr. |
