Abstract: | Ene Henshaw's earliest plays were published in 1956, which makes him the first notable Nigerian playwright. The present article examines Henshaw's plays in relation to the development of African drama, focusing on the second collection of Henshaw's plays, 'Children of the goddess', which was published in 1964. In the context of the colonial period when the only plays available were classical and European plays, Henshaw's popular drama was revolutionary. Note, ref. |
