Abstract: | This paper analyses twelve works of seven Kenyan women writers, which all put women at the centre, even when the work would not be classified as a work about women, and give the female characters complex, goal-oriented lives to live. Adolescence, marriage and work stand out as the life tasks in which the female characters deal with their options and struggle with reconciling the issues of cultural conflict and economic change as applied to them personally and to women generally. |
