Abstract: | In 'Food Policy Analysis' (1983) C.P. Timmer, W.P. Falcon and S.R. Pearson present a framework of analysis which links micro sectors of the food system with the macroeconomy. The book goes well beyond most neoclassical analyses in examining the disaggregated welfare effects of government pricing policies and in moving toward a general equilibrium framework of analysis to trace the effects of food policy on the macroeconomy and vice versa. This review article discusses the strengths and weaknesses of the food policy analysis framework. It pays special attention to several issues not addressed, such as political, institutional, social and managerial factors, and calls for a framework for agricultural marketing research which integrates insights and tools from a number of relevant disciplines.
