Abstract:As part of a larger work on the pricing strategies and policies of small retailers, the author interviewed 240 retailers randomly selected from a list of 510 identified from among other small-scale businesses in Calabar, Nigeria. Findings are reported under three main headings: characteristics of the sample, including sources and amount of start-up capital; pricing strategies and policies of sample firms; and basic business philosophy of the sample firms, for example, customer satisfaction, or profit maximization. The findings indicate a pressing need to organize short management courses for the development of small-scale business in Nigeria. Ref.
