Abstract: | The University of Sierra Leone, established in 1967, consists of two constituent colleges - Fourah Bay College and Njala University College. This paper discusses the functions of the university, the low level of research activities and the attempts, since 1980, to increase research, the teaching programmes of the faculties (Agriculture, Arts, Economic and Social Studies, Education, Engineering, and Pure and Applied Science) and institutes (Institute of Education, Institute of Public Administration and Management, Department of Extra-Mural Studies, Institute of African Studies), the legal situation of the university, administration and management, conditions of entry, and teaching staff. |
